Bishops skeptic over gun ban enforcement

MANILA, Philippines – Bishops have expressed skepticism over the gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to curb violence before and during the coming polls in May.

UP student, pal killed in clash with troops

MACALELON, Quezon—A student of the University of the Philippines- Los Baños and a colleague were killed in what the Army said was an encounter with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Macalelon, Quezon, Saturday morning.

Relatives identified the UPLB student as Ian Maderazo, 26, a Agricultural Chemistry student. Maderazo was a former UPLB Student Council member and a member of the Pi Sigma Fraternity.

Two dead, 48 arrested after Philippine gun ban: police

Police shot dead two robbers and arrested 48 other people as they enforced a firearms ban across the Philippines ahead of national elections in May, authorities said Monday.
